News Stories Careers Evening and Futures Fair Following the success of last year’s debut event, we are delighted that a second community Careers Evening and Futures Fair will take place at the school on Thursday, 13th February, between 4.30 and 7.30pm. Business leaders unite to inspire young entrepreneurs Business leaders from across Hull and East Yorkshire are continuing to volunteer their time as part of a collective effort to help inspire young people to think about self-employment as a career option. Careers programme helps to unlock future study and employment opportunities To help them navigate the selection processes that will unlock future study and employment opportunities, students have benefitted from a series of activities designed to develop the skills and techniques required to thrive in an interview situation. Students enjoy hands-on activities at Humber STEM event A group of fifty year 9 students recently attended this year’s Humber STEM event where they took part in a range of hands-on activities that helped them to develop their problem-solving, teamwork and leadership skills. Site visit inspires next generation of engineers Budding young engineers at Withernsea High School have been given an opportunity to explore careers in engineering with a first-hand look at the site of a multi-million-pound construction development near Hull. Turning setbacks into success: Entrepreneur shares valuable life lessons with students An entrepreneur whose early failures helped to shape future successes in the world of business was the source of inspiration for a motivational speech delivered to students at Withernsea High School this week. Networking event inspires careers conversations A business networking event has provided an opportunity for Year 7 students to meet and engage with representatives from over 25 local employers and education providers. Career Journey – Alex Tallett While at a recent careers fair, Withernsea High School’s Careers Leader, Viki Foster, spoke to representatives from construction company Balfour Beatty who revealed they had recently taken on a former student of the school as an apprentice. Foundations laid for careers in construction A group of Year 11 students from Withernsea High School have been given an opportunity to explore the wide variety of jobs available within the construction industry at a joint business, trade and careers event. Students learn essential life-saving skills Year 7 students at Withernsea High School are among some of the estimated 35,000 students at schools across Yorkshire who have learnt essential life-saving skills as part of this year’s Restart a Heart campaign.
