Out of catchment transport

Transport to a school within your catchment area is provided by the Local Authority, free of charge to both parents and the school.

However, East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) does not contribute to transport costs if you choose to send your child to a school outside your catchment area.

Schools are not required to fund school buses from their own budgets. To give some context, providing a dedicated school bus service currently costs around £75,000 per year. Commissioning our own school bus would therefore result in significantly higher costs for both parents and the school.

Despite this, we value the choice families make in selecting Withernsea High School, and we therefore reimburse 50% of your child’s bus ticket cost (subject to attendance and other conditions, and subject to change).

We also understand that parents/carers may feel concerned about younger students travelling on a standard service bus. To support this, we have negotiated with EYMS to ensure that the 75 bus enters the school drive to safely drop off and collect students.
