Peak Performance: School staff brave the weather in charity fundraising effort2 July 2025 (by admin) |
Last Saturday, a team of staff members from Withernsea High School completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Taking inspiration from a friend and colleague who continues to benefit from the support of the prominent cancer care charity, 18 staff tackled the 24-mile route which includes the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
While the rest of the country enjoyed one of the hottest weekends of the year, over in the Yorkshire Dales the walkers were greeted with cold winds, heavy rain and a lack of visibility due to mist and fog.
Event co-organiser Nick Richmond said: “The weather was brutal. However, the team looked out for each other and encouraged one another to keep going. The shared feeling of elation at the top of the third and final peak was an incredible moment.”
At the time of going to print, Team WHS have raised more than £1,300 for Macmillan Cancer Support, with donations still being accepted via their official JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/emma-jesney-1730921531104
