Work Experience

Ready 4 Work Programme

At Withernsea High School, we believe that meaningful encounters with employers and the workplace are essential in helping students understand the world of work, develop employability skills and make informed decisions about their future pathways. That’s why we have created the ‘Ready 4 Work’ Programme where students experience a progressive programme of workplace encounters throughout Years 7 to 11, including employer visits, workplace visits, employer-led projects, enterprise and entrepreneur activities, careers activities and a block work experience placement in Year 10.

Our ‘Ready 4 Work’ programme supports students to develop a deeper understanding of different industries, workplace expectations and the skills required for future success. Through opportunities to engage directly with employers, students can explore a range of career pathways, including technical education routes, apprenticeships, further education and higher education options.

We work closely with employers and local partners to ensure that workplace experiences are meaningful, inclusive and linked to the needs of the local labour market. This reflects the direction of national policy towards sustained employer engagement and supports the Gatsby Benchmarks for Careers Guidance, particularly encounters with employers and employees, experiences of workplaces, and addressing the individual needs of every student.

All work experience opportunities are carefully planned, monitored and evaluated to ensure they provide safe, purposeful and valuable learning experiences that help students develop confidence, ambition and the knowledge needed to make successful transitions beyond school.
