Key Stage 3 Boys’ Basketball Success

21 February 2024 (by admin)

On Tuesday 20th February, the Key Stage 3 Boys’ Basketball team travelled to Beverley Grammar for an East Riding round-robin tournament - playing games against Beverley Grammar, Hornsea High, Headlands School, and Driffield School.

Year 11 student Josh Halliday has been coaching the boys this year and the team were well-prepared for their first competitive event. All players fully contributed throughout the evening and displayed high levels of enthusiasm, passion and commitment to every game. They worked hard as a team and it was pleasing to see and hear them motivating, congratulating and encouraging each other at every opportunity.

Offensively, the team showed great attacking prowess and scored many spectacular baskets. Defensively, the team grew stronger throughout the event and worked on these areas to be even better and more dominating in each game.

Having both won their first four games, Withernsea High and Beverley Grammar found themselves taking on their final game to see who would be crowned the champions. Beverley were very strong and physical – starting the game faster and going two baskets up. This did not deter the Withernsea team as they showed resilience and grit to continue to play as a team and work together – soon scoring baskets and getting more into the game.

Withernsea continued to push forward and score more baskets, eventually winning the highly paced game. As a result, Withernsea won all five games – scoring at least four more baskets compared with their opponents.

Well done to all players! It was a great occasion and very deserving of their success. The boys really enjoyed the day. Our thanks go to Beverley Grammar and the School Sports Partnership (SSP) for hosting.
