Panathlon Challenge: Students explore new sporting opportunities

16 January 2023 (by admin)

A group of seven Year 7 and 8 students recently took part in a sporting event held at Headlands School in Bridlington.

Hosted by national charity, The Panathlon Foundation, in conjunction with the East Riding School Sports Partnership, the foundation’s new ‘Xtend’ event aims to bridge the gap between primary and secondary multi-sports for Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) students.

Multiple teams from schools across the county, including Hornsea, Holderness Academy and the Market Weighton School, took part in the event which saw participants enjoy a variety of activities including Standing Long Jump, Speed Bounce, Volleyball and New Age Kurling.

The event aimed to introduce students to new sports, encouraging them to develop confidence and teamwork. While there was also a competitive element to the days’ activities, the emphasis was very much focussed on participation and having fun.

The students enjoyed the experience and we were rewarded for their efforts with a medal and certificate each.

Summing up the day, Year 8 student Ethan Peterson simply said: “It was amazing. I loved it!”
