Last Thursday, 13th October, primary pupils from across Holderness were given an early taste of High School life as they engaged in a variety of activities at Withernsea High School’s Year 5 and 6 Open Evening.

A record number of families visited the school for the first full-scale event of its kind since 2019, with group tours of reduced numbers having taken place during the interim period of Covid control measures.

The return of this popular event offered parents, carers and their children a unique opportunity to tour the school and visit all subject areas – providing prospective pupils with a full flavour of what the school has to offer.

From demonstrations in Science to LED torch making in DT, each department delivered hands-on activities and displays of student work to a steady stream of impressed visitors throughout the evening.

Commenting on the success of the event, Headteacher Mark Crofts said: ‘We were delighted to welcome the families of prospective pupils into our school for the first full-scale open event of its kind to be held since 2019.

There was a fantastic buzz around the whole evening, with positive interactions culminating in a real warmth that was felt around the school.

I was incredibly proud of the students and staff of Withernsea High School who collectively helped us to celebrate our strengths and showcase the fantastic facilities we have to offer.

Feedback throughout the evening was overwhelmingly positive, with parents and carers communicating a real confidence about their children joining our school community.

I would like to thank everyone who joined us for the event.’

Any prospective parents/carers and their children who were unable to attend the evening are encouraged to contact Zoie Wiseman (Head of Year 7) for further information about the school, or to arrange a visit.

Miss Wiseman can be contacted at wisemanz@wscampus.net or via phone on 01964 613133.

The application deadline for all secondary school places within the East Riding is Monday, 31st October. The parents and carers of current Year 6 pupils should, by now, have received detailed information directly from East Riding of Yorkshire Council regarding the high school application process and the steps required to ensure their child secures a place. Enrolment is not automatic and places must be applied for.

Applications can be made online using the ERYC Citizen Portal: https://emsonline.eastriding.gov.uk/CitizenPortal_LIVE/en

General information about the school admissions process is available from the ERYC School Admissions Team by phone on (01482) 392100 or via email at schooladmissions@eastriding.gov.uk

The School Admissions Team will notify parents/carers about the outcome of applications from Wednesday, 1st March 2023.

For those who have been successful in securing a place at Withernsea High School, this outcome will mark the formal start of the Transition process which will see primary pupils visiting the high school for a number of events including, Transition Days and a Year 6 Parents’ Evening. For those with additional needs, bespoke events will also run to ensure that the transition process is made a little easier by introducing them to the school in smaller groups.
