Achieve with Lone Parent Support

Jobcentre Plus, in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, are set to launch a brand new programme specifically aimed at helping to support lone parents in the Withernsea area.

The ALPS (Achieve with Lone Parent Support) programme is designed to remove some of the challenges lone parents may face when looking to move towards employment. It also tackles lack of confidence and self-esteem; teaches resilience and helps participants overcome feelings of isolation as they make friends with people in a similar situation.

The programme includes:

• 1-to-1 support from a Personal Advisor with a better off in work calculation explaining the financial benefits of working
• Help to increase mental toughness/resilience
• Improving employability skills
• Weekly job clubs
• Progression opportunities (employment, education, work experience and voluntary placements)

Sarah Blackwell, Partnership Manager at Jobcentre Plus, commented: ‘This programme has already successfully run in Goole and Beverley and has resulted in some amazing outcomes for the participants. Some have moved into paid employment and some have even reported improvements in their child’s behaviour as they feel happier and more confident in themselves.’

The first Withernsea session is due to start next Monday, 14th October and regular sessions will take place at both The Hut and Pavilion Leisure Centre.
