World-famous orchestra returns to Withernsea High School

Following a hugely successful concert at the school last July, we are delighted to announce that the world-famous Manchester Camerata Orchestra are returning to Withernsea High School for another public performance on Thursday 12th March.

The concert, titled ‘French Fancies’, will take the audience on a journey through the romantic and sometimes whimsical work of some of France’s most renowned composers.

It will also feature two very special compositions, created by members of the local community. Over the past few months, musicians from the orchestra have led song-writing workshops in schools and care homes to give both young and old people an opportunity to work with professional musicians.

The schools’ piece will see individual compositions from each school joined together to form one larger piece, which will be performed by the pupils themselves alongside the orchestra.

Residents from eight local care homes have enjoyed a similar series of workshops to create their own composition, which they will also perform alongside the orchestra.

The concert takes place in the main hall at Withernsea High School at 4.00pm on Thursday, 12th March.

Tickets for the event, priced £7 each, are available now via the following outlets:

• Bridlington Spa Box Office - By phone on 01262 678258 or online at https://www.bridspa.com/buy/?id=342602

• Withernsea Library and Customer Service Centre - in person at Queen Street, Withernsea, HU19 2HH

• A number of tickets will also be available to purchase ‘on the door’ at Withernsea High School, from half an hour prior to the event.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no vehicular access to the Withernsea High School site between 3.00pm and 3.30pm. We advise anyone attending the concert to aim for a 3.40pm arrival. This is to avoid the departure of school buses at 3.30 and the subsequent congestion from end-of-school traffic on Hull Road and through Withernsea itself.

Ample parking at the school is available in the main staff and visitors car park, which is located on the left as you enter the school drive. In addition, we have two disabled spaces available outside the main reception.

All concert attendees should aim to enter the building via the school’s main reception.

‘French Fancies’ is the latest event in a continuing association between Withernsea High School and the Manchester Camerata which, over the past three years, has created numerous opportunities for a large number of our students, and those from primary schools across the local area, to perform alongside professional musicians.

The concert forms a part of the Classically Yours programme – a programme which has previously seen orchestras including the Camerata, Sinfonia Viva, Britten Sinfonia and The Hallé Orchestra come to the East Riding to perform at venues in Beverley, Bridlington and Withernsea.
