Year 7 boys beat Beverley Grammar in East Riding School Football Association Cup quarter final

Last night, Tuesday 18th December, the Year 7 Boys football team travelled to a cold and wet Beverley to compete in the quarter final of the East Riding School Football Association Cup.

There they faced a strong and well-organised Beverley Grammar school side. The two teams have faced one another several times over the past few weeks, with all games being tight.

Withernsea got off to a dream start with Jake Harman who, after shrugging off several tackles, hit a low drive that found the bottom corner.

Beverley fought back and tested Withernsea’s defence and goalkeeper on several occasions. The back three of Jude Driver, Daniel Buttle and James Snaith held firm and managed to get through to half time.

Withernsea doubled their advantage again through Jake Harman, who seems to score goals out of nothing!

During the second half, Withernsea’s midfield proved too strong for Beverley. Withernsea’s Tom Pindar and James Carroll were outstanding – both carving out several chances for Clark Walker and Freddy Finn to score, which they duly did, one goal a-piece

To Beverley’s credit they fought back hard late on and managed to get a goal back through a penalty. Withernsea knew the Beverley would offer tough competition, and they were right.

However, the match finished 4 – 1 to Withernsea and our team now go through to the semi-finals after Christmas.

The man of the match could easily have gone to any of the team, with Jake Harman, Daniel Buttle and goalkeeper James Boasman all having a fantastic game. However, for their sheer hard work and tenacity, it was shared between Tom Pindar and James Carroll.

Well done to the entire team.
