Team Withernsea set to tackle Hull 10K

On Sunday 10th June, a group of Withernsea High School staff members will take on one of the region’s most popular races as they join hundreds of other runners to compete in the Hull 10K.

Although a number of staff have previously entered the race independently, this year marks the first time that a group have come together under the banner of the school.

The group, Team Withernsea, will be running in aid of the Kerry Key Foundation – a registered charity formed in 2013 following the death of its namesake after a brave 7 year battle with cancer.

The foundation was set up to honour Kerry’s memory, endeavouring to continue the charitable work she began while battling illness. Among the charities supported by Kerry, which the foundation now continues to fundraise for, are: The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Hull & East Riding (HER) Breast Friends and Cancer Research UK.

Around 15 members of staff, including some who have personal family links to Kerry, will be joining the race to further support her legacy.

Also supporting Team Withernsea will be Year 11 student Thomas Megson, Kerry’s brother. Although he himself will be running alongside family members under the banner of the foundation, he is fully behind Team Withernsea’s efforts.

Sarah Britchford, Second in Science, has run the event a number of times in recent years alongside friend and colleague, Rebecca Pindar. This annual involvement inspired her to pull together a team at the school in order to raise even more funds. Mrs Britchford commented:  ‘We sadly know many people both at school, and in the wider community, whose lives have been touched by cancer and it just felt like pulling people together to raise some substantial funds for these important charities seemed like the right thing to do.

Running as Team Withernsea will be a really special experience and will further reinforce the strong sense of community and teamwork that we, as a school, are proud of.’

Media Coordinator Tim Nuttall commented: ‘Raising money for charity has always been an activity at the heart of Withernsea High School. Staff and students regularly work together to fundraise at a number of events and activities throughout each year in support of a variety worthy causes.

The whole school community are delighted to support Team Withernsea in their fundraising efforts and we wish them all the best of luck.’
