Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 Performing Arts Curriculum

Students can choose to study Dance and / or Acting in Year 10 and Year 11.
The courses offered are BTEC Level 2 Diploma (equivalent to 4 GCSEs)


The ACTING course. Students study 4 compulsory units:

Unit A1: Working in the Performing Arts Industry 5 2

Unit A2: Professional Development in the Performing Arts Industry 5 2

Unit A3: Performing Arts Production Process 10 2

Unit B4: Acting Skills and Techniques 10 2


Plus a further 3 units from the following options:


Unit B5: The Development of Drama

Unit B6: Devising Plays

Unit B7: Performing Scripted Plays

Unit B8: Musical Theatre Performance

Unit B9: Developing Physical Theatre Performance



The DANCE Course. Students study 4 compulsory units:

A1: Working in the Performing Arts Industry

A2: Professional Development in the Performing Arts Industry

A3: Performing Arts Production Process

C13: Performing Dance


Plus a further 3 units from the following options:


B9: Developing Physical Theatre Performance

C10: Contemporary Dance

C11: Exploring Urban Dance Styles

C12: Jazz Dance

C14: The Development of Dance


All work is assessed and standardised internally and moderated by an accredited Lead Verifier

Grading:
Distinction * (A* equivalent)
Distinction (A grade equivalent)
Merit (B grade equivalent)
Pass (C grade equivalent)


EXTRA CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES:

Each year all Key Stage 3 students have the opportunity to take part in many extra curricular Performing Arts activities including:

• The annual school production (after school rehearsals)

• Rock Challenge (after school rehearsals)

• Dance Club (lunch time)

• Drama Club (lunch time)

• Evening of Dance performance (work from lessons, dance clubs and after school rehearsals)

• Glee Club (lunch time)

We are always happy to introduce new extra curricular Performing Arts activities, so if you have an idea for a new club please see a member of the Performing Arts staff.
